The Colorado Springs Poetry Slam followed traditional poetry slam rules:
The Colorado Springs Poetry Slam was founded in 2023 to create a haven for poets and wordsmiths to have an environment where they can be themselves and live within their truth.
The poetry slam is held monthly at Bar-K on first Friday.

We’re more than a slam—we’re a movement built on four foundational pillars:
Pillar What It Means at CSPS
Creativity : We celebrate original expression through poetry slams, open mics, and collaborative art.
Wellness: Our Poetic Wellness Workshops fuse healing practices with creative writing to nurture mind, body, and soul. Workshops are held both at the Westside Community Center and virtually each month.
Community: From poetry potlucks to open mics, we foster connection, dialogue, and shared experience.
Literacy: We support emerging authors with book release events, writing circles, and publishing resources.
The Colorado Springs Poetry Slam (CSPS) is a monthly celebration of spoken word, music, and community held at Lulu’s Downtown. We follow traditional slam rules: original poems, three-minute time limits, and a whole lot of heart. Each event features:
•A musical guest to open the night (past artists include Blaire, Renee Official, Timone Perez, Niqqo the Vet, Sarah Garlick, Adian, and more)
•Guest DJs spinning on the ones and twos
•Open mic slots with 5 minutes of stage time
These workshops are a fusion of mindfulness, healing, and poetic expression. Led by certified facilitators and guest artists, they offer:
• Guided writing prompts
• Breathwork and grounding exercises
• Space for reflection and sharing
• Tools for emotional resilience and self-discovery
Perfect for creatives, caregivers, and anyone seeking soulful connection.
There are many ways to join the CSPS family:

Lately, I’ve been reading a lot of poetry collections by local poets. The Renaissance Man himself Dustin Cunningham wrote a poetic opus into the soul of a man just trying to existence within the modern age. His words are reminders of why left post-forty can be a time of clarity, uncomfortable truths, and a reminder that it’s ok to fall and hopefully get back up again.
